Google Takeout
Using Google Takeout to Save Data
Important Note: Your student Google accounts will be deleted on July 15, 2017 this means data associated with those accounts will be deleted too, so make sure you save your backup in a safe place. Google Takeout: An easy way to backup all your data from your school Google account. Takeout can make a backup of your documents from Google Drive, or your emails from Gmail, it can be used to create a backup of most Google applications. Important: If you have the option, please do this on a home computer so you can save your backup to it. If not, please get a flash drive ready so you can put your back up on it. DO NOT save this backup on your school computer because it will be deleted permanently when you hand your computer in. Step 1 | Link: Go to google.com/takeout on your web browser of choice. Step 2 | Signing in: You will be asked to sign into your Google account, here is where you enter your [email protected] account and password then click login. If you logged in successfully, you should see this screen --> Step 3 | Customization: you will see a list of applications. You can select or deselect any applications you want to back up. For further customization you can click on the application icon of each Google Product and you will see more options for that single app, shown to the right. After you are done selecting what you want to back up, click the blue ‘Next’ button Step 4 | Finishing Up: Now you select the format that you want (.zip) and select download use link via Email. Change the "Archive Size" to 4GB *Note* if the size of the backup is over 4GB, it will be split into separate zips. This can take a while if you have a lot of data, so Google will automatically email you when it has finished compressing everything. Once the backup has completed you will be at a screen that will allow you to download your backup. Step 5 | Unarchiving the Zip: When you double click on your backup, it will expand into a folder with all of your backed up data. You data will be put into subfolders sorted by their application. This allows you to easily get to the data you want. Important Note: If you are on a school computer, either sign into your school account on a home computer, or save the backup to a flash drive so that it is not on your school computer because the school computers will be wiped when they are handed in. |
